“Public confidence and trust in the migration system has been shattered by decades of mismanagement.
“The abolition of exit checks by Conservative and Labour Governments means that we can only guess at the numbers coming in and out.
“People over-staying on short-term visas are probably the biggest source of illegal immigration and we still cannot say whether they are leaving when they are meant to do so.
“Exit checks must be reintroduced immediately.”

Huhne is an authoritarian nightmare and doesn't belong in the Liberal Democrat party. Why on earth does he think it's the government's job to know where everyone is at any given moment? We don't need exit checks and the Liberal Democrats should be opposing the government's thoroughly objectionable e-borders scheme with all their might.
But we definitely need to know how many former immigrants are leaving the country in order to balance the statistics.
In an age of Terrorism, we need to know who is in the country and who's out of the country. Labour got us into this mess, they need to put measures in place to improve homeland security.

We may be able to keep track on our former PMs in addition to House of Lords labour party donors
