Well since it's Conference Season, here is the first entry in the Conference Diary. I don't know why, but the diary has begun on day two. There will be one small video released each day of the Conference at Brighton.

Conference started on Sunday. It's taken me this long to get on to the machines in the Internet cafe in the Brighton centre. It's a lot quieter now that all the hoopla surrounding the Tax vote has died down.
There were some useful consultation meetings on Saturday and Sunday morning about crime and punishment. The party spokespeople asked for feedback on this subject, and I hope for lots of this at our meeting on 25th.
By the way, it was a bit cheeky of the TV people to show a man in the sparse audience dozing off - sorry, overcome by over-concentration - during Ming's speech on Sunday. The speech was a report back by a Federal committee and came after a round of complicated constitutional amendments. All riveting stuff.
Day 2 Speech by Nick Clegg on crime and civil liberties (surprisingly under-reported by TV, seeing as how he is reckoned to be heir-apparent to Ming). It was OK, but I must admit that Peter Black was more impressed than I was.
Some controversy over the party's proposals on ensuring that disabled people and those from ethnic groups were represented as they should be at all levels of selection for candidacy, but the motion was comfortably passed in the end.
There was also an important motion on rape, proposed partly by Cardiff parties, on which Ali Goldsworthy summed up.
All the motions are downloadable from the main LibDem website, by the way, and I hope to give a fuller report when I get back.
