Gun crime

If it had not been for Peter Hain, and Société Générale, headlines last week would have been dominated by the increase in firearms-related offences. This in spite of the promises made by Tony Blair and Jack Straw in 1997, and the passage of the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997.

While we don't have anything of a small arms industry left in the UK, these weapons must be coming into the country under the noses of HM Customs, a small but dedicated band of individuals have their work cut out; it's a bit like trying to put out the Cuty Sark with a water pistol.

Totally agree anonymous. However, have you heard about the current Liberal Democrat proposals to bolster Customs and Excise with a fully manned border guard?
