Gun control

It is pointless having the tightest restrictions on guns without the willingness to enforce them. BBC Wales recently reported that illegal replica guns were still on sale in Wales. See the video here.

Earlier this year, Chris Huhne commented on government figures which showed that the rate of murder by guns and knives had gone up.

“The increase in gun and knife killings is deeply alarming. Violent crime is still far higher than a decade ago and must be tackled much more vigorously.

“Police should devote more time to stop and searches for knives and guns, and there must be a major new effort from the Government to clamp down on gun and knife smuggling.

“Nine times more officials are allocated to tackling cigarette smuggling than gun smuggling, which is a crazy set of priorities."

These controls are pointless anyway. Typical knee-jerk controlling reactions from government.

The bad guys will always find ways to get weapons. Gun crime has increased even with the ridiculous gun controls we have.

We should liberalise gun laws and repeal all legal impediment against owning firearms for sport or defense (returning the provisions of the Bill of Rights into law, after removal to protect the state from the citizens).

We took about a hundred years to achieve the control of weapons we had until recently. Why should we throw it all away, to turn Britain into the equivalent of the Wild West, or latter-day Iraq?

To Aberavon:
This is a common claim a lot of Brits make, it is commonly due to government propergander (for lack of a better term).
Gun control increases crime, the UK has some of the highest gun related crimes in the world, higher than the US and most of europe and the world.
Switzerland has the lowest in Europe, and the least amount of gun control.
Also, for your information, the 'wild west' had 9 times as lower crime as today, many scholars agree this is due to the fact that citizens we allowed to defend themselves, thus crime did not exist.
Only major cases, like 'Billy the Kid' and wild west movies are all modern people hear about, thus they assume the worst, however there was hardly any crime.
