Prevent's flaws have been revealed; it must be replaced

Commenting on new data which reveals the numbers of individuals referred to the Prevent Programme, Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson, said: “Prevent is being dangerously overused. This data reveals exactly why Prevent has become so toxic. “The Liberal Democrats believe that Prevent has too many flaws and should be scrapped and replaced with a new system that fixes its shortcomings and has community engagement at its heart. In the meantime we need to ensure there is proper training for those who have a statutory duty to refer to ensure it is used properly. “Because of its many weaknesses Prevent is damaging community cohesion and fostering distrust. These figures lay bare Prevent’s flaws, it is time for it to end.”
