Government scapegoating of overseas doctors shameful

Commenting on last week’s ruling by the Law Lords that Government restrictions on the right of thousands of overseas doctors to work in the UK were unlawful, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb said:

“The Government is in a hole of its own making.

“Ministers acted shamefully by scapegoating overseas doctors last year for the mess they made with the junior doctor training process.

“Rather than empty political gestures, the NHS needs good workforce planning. This would reassure British doctors and make use of the skills offered by overseas doctors.”

Health may be a devolved matter, but immigration policy is not.

If there was a competition for incompetence; they'd come second.

It seems that the government has knee-jurk reations to shortages of employees in various areas (Teachers, Doctors, Nurses, physios etc) which results in a mass-training campaign resulting in a huge glut in these areas.

I've previously highlighted the glut of teachers in Wales, and more recently the glut of new Nurses whereby around 180 nurses have been chasing just one job.

I'll give the same advice I've given in previous comments on Blogs, if you are a qualified teacher, nurse or doctor or whatever, look to going to the United States to live.
