Double-counting even afflicts Labour expenses

A correspondent from a neighbouring constituency has spotted (on this site) that Huw Irranca-Davies, MP for Ogmore and Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs made a single donation to the Royal British Legion and claimed for it twice on expenses.

I assume you are referring to the document “Incidental Expenses Provision/Staff Allowances 06/07”, specifically pages 48 and 130, where it appears that Mr Irranca Davies has submitted the same receipt twice for a donation of £20. The receipt is clearly the same document, although the one on page 48 is somewhat more moth-eaten than the one on page 130.

Additionally, from the document “Incidental Expenses Provision/Staff Allowances 07/08” which can also be found on that link you provided we can find a receipt on page 146 for three Wreath’s for £60, for Remembrance Sunday, 11th November 2007; although I understand that Mr Irranca Davies has now returned the monies for this expenses.

I understand that Nia Griffiths, Labour MP for Llanelli also put in a claim for £15 for a Wreath at the Firefighters Remembrance Service (10th Sept. 2007) (Incidental Expenses Provision/Staff Allowances 06/07 page 30)
